How to Access Zoom Recordings

Zoom has restrictions on recording capacities, resulting in OIT utilizing Kaltura as a host solution. Meaning, when you record Zoom sessions, they are saved in Kaltura, which is integrated with Canvas. This article outlines how to access those recordings.



1) Log into Canvas: https://online.valenciacollege.edu
 -Use your full Valencia email address  Ex. username@ValenciaCollege.edu

2) Click a Sandbox course. You may have to scroll down the page to find them.
If you do not have a sandbox course, you can Request a Sandbox Course

3) Scroll down the menu on the left and click "My Media"

3a. Upon logging in for the first time, you may see this authorization prompt. Click "Authorize"

All videos saved to your Kaltura account will be listed. You may add videos by clicking "Add New". Zoom videos are automatically set to private. If you want to share or use them elsewhere, you'll need to change the settings.



4) Click on a video you want to share or edit.

5) Click "Actions", then "Edit"

To the left, click the actions button, then a drop down menu will appear. Click Edit

6) Change the video title and description to something more fitting to its content.
Then click "Save"

Below are optional settings you can set to each of your videos.

6a. Pushing the Video to Canvas Courses
If you wish to make the video available in your Canvas course, you may use the settings in the "Publish" tab. Videos posted this way will show in the corresponding course(s) in their "Media Gallery" link.
Alternatively, you may continue further down the article to get the embedding link to place the video inside a particular page.

Start by clicking "Publish"
A) Switch the publishing status to "Published"
B) Select which courses to push the video
C) Click Save

6b. Video Interactions
You may choose to disable comments, stop further comments, and prevent clipping the video.

Start by clicking "Options"
A) To disable comments on the video, check the box "Disable comments for this media"
B) To stop further comments on the video, check the box "Close discussion"
C) To permit the video from having clips created from it, check the box "Enable everyone to create clips from this video"
D) Click Save


The options tab is selected. Three checkboxes are available and unchecked.

6c. Video Thumbnail
You may select the thumbnail, the default picture when the video player initializes. You can upload a custom image or use the Auto-Generate feature that randomly selects frames from the video, then you pick the one you prefer.
Start by clicking "Thumbnails"
A) If you already have a custom picture ready, upload it using the "Upload Thumbnail" button.
B) If you'd prefer to select a different image from the video, click "Auto-Generate", then select the picture you prefer.

7) Share the Video
To share the video outside of Canvas or to embed in in a particular page in Canvas, you will need to go to the video's share settings.

A) Return to the main video screen by click "Go To Media" at the bottom of the page.
B) Click "Details"
C) Click "Share"

8) Share Settings and Embedding code
A) Start time pushes the start time forward in the video. Helpful for if there's a particular section of the video you want it to start playing. Also helpful for videos with long delayed start times.
B) Player skin is look and feel of the video player when it's embedded into a page.
C) Player size is the size of the player when it's embedded into a page.
D) Embed code is the code you'll need to copy, then paste into the page you want to show the video. Most page editors have an option to embed a video or view the code to paste the code into. For assistance with this step, contact the nearest CTLI Lab near you. For advanced users, you may also edit the "width" and "height" properties in the code to make the player a custom size.

Start time is the first option. An unchecked checkbox to select the start time with a textbox next to for the time. Two radio buttons to select which video skin to use. Three boxes to select which size player to pick. A final textbox that holds the embedding code to copy into the desired page.
