The District Board of Trustees is constituted a body corporate by the name of “The District Board of Trustees of Valencia College, Florida,” which serves as the formal legal name of Valencia College. Valencia College is a political subdivision of the State of Florida.
- Membership, Term of Office
- The number of members of the District Board of Trustees of Valencia College shall be no less than five (5) and no more than nine (9) members as appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate in regular session.
- A member of the District Board of Trustees of Valencia College must be a resident of Orange or Osceola County.
- Members of the District Board of Trustees shall receive no salary but may receive reimbursement for expenses as provided in Sec. 112.061, F.S., including mileage to and from official District Board of Trustees meetings.
- Trustees shall be appointed for terms of four (4) years and may be reappointed. Trustees shall serve for such periods as provided by law.
- Orientation of New Members
The President shall assist new members to understand the District Board of Trustees’ functions, policies, and procedures and introduce them to Valencia College before or shortly after they take office. Each new member shall be familiarized with and provided with access to pertinent portions of the School Code and Rules of the State Board of Education, rules of procedure for meetings of the District Board of Trustees, relevant plans and reports, and the President’s evaluation form.
- District Board of Trustees Self-Evaluation
- Each year the members of the District Board of Trustees shall complete a Board Self-Evaluation instrument, evaluating the performance of the Board as a unit, and discuss the results in a Board meeting.
- The discussion of Board roles and responsibilities strengthens communication and understanding among the members and leads to a stronger, more cohesive governing group.
