Policy Statement:

To maintain satisfactory academic progress, a student at Valencia College must achieve a minimum term grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher each term.

Any student who does not achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher in a term will be placed on academic warning. To be removed from academic warning, a student must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher in the next term.

Any student who fails to achieve a term GPA of 2.0 or higher for two successive terms will be placed on academic probation. To be removed from academic probation, a student must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Any student on academic probation who earns less than a 2.0 GPA for two successive terms will be placed on academic suspension for the following term of enrollment (Fall, Spring, or Summer). During this time, the student may register for continuing education courses only.

Upon written request by the student, readmission may be granted by a Dean of Students or designee. If permitted to return to Valencia, the student will remain in academic probationary status and must achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher for each term.

Any student who does not achieve a term GPA of 2.0 or higher during any term while on probation following academic suspension will be again placed on academic suspension from the College for one term (Fall, Spring, or Summer).

When a student's cumulative GPA is a 2.0 or higher, he/she returns to Good Academic Standing.

Procedures:

All college level and college preparatory courses in which students are registered at the end of the Refund Request Deadline are used in computing GPA, except as provided in the Refund of Fees procedures (Student Fees and Refunds, 6Hx28:06-14).

While on academic probation, a student must meet with a student affairs staff member and may register only after receiving approval of his/her proposed schedule.

A student on academic suspension must submit a letter requesting readmission to Valencia to the Dean of Students or designee by the Suspension Readmission Deadline listed in the College Calendar. Readmission decisions are based on the Dean's or designee's judgment that the student has made sufficient changes in his/her commitment to college. If permitted to return, the student will remain in academic probationary status and must meet with a student affairs staff member to complete an academic readmission plan, have courses approved before registering each term, and must achieve a term GPA of 2.0 or higher each term of enrollment until an overall GPA of 2.0 is obtained.
