[Remote Desktop Connection] No connection / Black Screen when connecting

Here are the steps to restore the Remote Desktop Connection in case it only appears as a Black Screen when connecting:

(Please do these steps on the desktop you are trying to remote into)

1. Open the Start Menu

2. While in the Start Menu search for Edit Group Policy

3. Under the Computer Configuration Policy Directory double-click the Administrative Templates folder

4. Under the Administrative Templates folder double-click the Windows Components folder

5. Under the Windows Components folder double-click the Remote Desktop Services folder

6. Under the Remote Desktop Services folder double-click the Remote Desktop Session folder

7. Under the Remote Desktop Sessions folder double-click the Connections folder

8. While in the connections folder double-click on the Select RDP Transport protocols setting

9. Set the policy to Enabled

10. Under the Select Transport Type Drop-down menu select Use only TCP

preview

11. Click Apply and then Okay

 

Once the above steps have been completed Restart the computer and test the connection to verify it is now working.
