Create a Passkey with Microsoft Authenticator

How to create and use a passkey for your Valencia College account using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Before you begin: Make sure Microsoft Authenticator is installed and that you can access your Valencia College account from the app. Bluetooth must be enabled on both the computer and mobile device.

Step 1

Log into My Sign-Ins | Security Info | Microsoft.com & select Add sign-in method. From the list, select Passkey in Microsoft Authenticator. A "Create a passkey in Microsoft Authenticator" window will pop up. Leave this window open and go to the cellphone.

Step 2

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device & select your Valencia College account. Under Other ways to sign in, select Create a passkey. Sign in & follow the prompts.

Step 3

On the “Sign in faster with your face, fingerprint, or PIN” screen, select Next.

Step 4

When prompted, make sure the new passkey is saved to the Microsoft Authenticator app. If the device defaults to another password manager, select the option to save another way or choose other password managers, then select Microsoft Authenticator. If Microsoft Authenticator is not available, enable Microsoft Authenticator as a password/passkey service on the device and try again.

If the device asks which service can provide password and passkey suggestions, enable Microsoft Authenticator under Additional services.

If prompted to save the passkey to a password manager, choose Other password managers.

Select Microsoft Authenticator as the location to save the passkey.

Step 5

Give the passkey a recognizable name, then select Done once the passkey is created. Sign in using the newly created passkey when prompted.

Additional notes

Note: The screens shown may vary slightly depending on the device, browser, operating system version, and password manager settings. If the device attempts to save the passkey to another password manager, choose Microsoft Authenticator instead.
