This article demonstrates how to set up the Authenticator app, how to troubleshoot issues with the app, and how to get assistance. Multi-factor authentication adds an additional layer of security to protect your account and data from intrusion.

Getting the Authenticator App
1) Go to your phone's App Store
2) Search for "Microsoft Authenticator" and make sure it's made by Microsoft!

4) After it's installed, continue to the next section Setting up the Authenticator app



 
Setting up the Authenticator app
There are two methods of setting up the authenticator. Select the method you want to use:
  > Setting up on a phone
  > Setting up with a computer (recommended)


Method 1 - Setting up with a computer:
1) If you haven't already, get the Authenticator app
2) Click the link to go to the Microsoft MFA Setup: aka.ms/mfasetup
3) Login with your Valencia email address

  Student email
  Ex. username@mail.valenciacollege.edu

  Employee email
  Ex. username@valenciacollege.edu

7) On your phone, open the Authenticator app Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
8) Press the + at the top right Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
9) Tap "Work or School Account" Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
10) Tap "Scan a QR code"

11) Scan the QR code on the computer
 Then click Next

12) You will receive a notification on your phone to approve the sign-in. Type in the code you see on your computer. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Method 2 - Setting up on a phone or tablet:
1) If you haven't already, get the Authenticator app
2) Click the link to go to the Microsoft MFA Setup: aka.ms/mfasetup
3) Login with your Valencia email address

  Student email

  Employee email
  Ex. username@valenciacollege.edu

5) Tap next Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
6) Tap next Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
7) Tap "Pair your account to the app by clicking this link" Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
8) You'll be switched to the Authenticator app, which will have a Valencia College profile Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
9) Switch back to the web browser, then click Next Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
10) Remember the code number on the screen.
You'll receive a notification from Authenticator: "Approve Sign-in?" .
Tap the notification, then type in the code.

11) Click "Next" and you're done!


We highly recommend you continue to the next section: Adding a Secondary Authentication Method. It will add a backup method to your account so if you get a new phone or the app stops working, you can still get in and fix the app.


Do not remove or uninstall the Authenticator app! You will need it for your duration at Valencia!

Adding a Secondary Authentication Method
We recommend adding your phone number to your Microsoft account in the event you lose your phone or the app stops working. You would still be able to access your account through the backup method and re-add the Authenticator app to your phone. Otherwise, you would have to contact the Atlas Help Desk to reset your account which may take a while and setup the app again.


1) Go to aka.ms/mfasetup
2) Sign-in and authenticate if necessary
3) Click "Add sign-in method"
On your computer

5) Enter your phone number then click next Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
6) Enter the confirmation number you receive by text or phone call Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Authentication Issues

My account was reset
These instructions are for if you've already called the Atlas Help Desk (407-582-5444) and they reset MFA on your account.


Part 1: Remove the existing Valencia College profile from the Authenticator App
1) Open the Authenticator app, tap the Valencia College Profile Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
2) Tap the Gear icon Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
3) Tap "Remove Account" Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
4) Tap "Yes, this app only"
The old profile is removed, move on to part 2 below

Part 2: Go to Setting up the Authenticator App
Tap/Click the link to jump to instructions on how to add your Valencia profile back to the app.
I have a new phone and need to add the Authenticator app

6) If you have the option to Text or Call:
  -Select the option you prefer to receive a code
  -Continue to

If you do not have those options, you will need to reset your MFA by calling the Atlas Help Desk at 407-582-5444

7) Click/Tap "Delete" for instances of Microsoft Authenticator

11) Click/Tap Next Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
12) You will see this screen with a QR code.
 Switch to your phone and open the Authenticator app.

 Then tap "Verify"

11) Tap "Pair your account to the app by clicking this link" Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
12) Your phone will switch to the Authenticator app
  Swap back to the web browser and click Next
13) Remember the number on the screen
  Tap the "Approve sign-in?" notification
  Enter the number and approve

The Authenticator app stopped working
